evaporation Flashcards
DEFINITION
EVAPORATION is the process by which a LIQUID can turn into a GAS.
how can a liquid evaporate?
Any liquid at any temperature will evaporate a little bit. The HIGHER the TEMPERATURE, the greater the RATE of evaporation. (It will happen more quickly.)
A liquid does not have to be at its boiling point to evaporate, but at this temperature the rate of evaporation will be the highest possible.
why is evaporation used
EVAPORATION is used when you want to separate a mixture of a LIQUID and a SOLID that has been DISSOLVED in the liquid.
Solute:
The substance that dissolves to form a solution is called a solute
solvent
The substance in which a solute will dissolve is called a solvent.
Solution:
Solution: A solution forms when a substance dissolves or breaks apart into another substance.
