Evaluation: The working memory model Flashcards
1
Q
State the 1st evaluation point of the working memory model.
A
Dual task performances
- Hitch & Baddeley study
Task 1:
- Occupied central executive (True/False task)
Task 2: - Involved articulatory loop or both CE & AL - Asked to continuously repeat "The" - Asked to say random numbers Reults: - Task 1 = Slower - Task 2 = Faster
2
Q
What does the 1st evaluation point of working memory model suggest?
A
- Demonstrates dual task performance effects & shows central executive is one component of working memory
3
Q
State the 2nd evaluation point of the working memory model.
A
Problems with using case studies
- Brain injuries = traumatic
- Therefore, may cause change in behaviour which results in person to perform worse in tasks
- Others may have other difficulties
- This is an issue as most support evidence for WMM comes from case studies
4
Q
State the 3rd evaluation point of the working memory model
A
Evidence from brain-damaged patients
- Shallic & Warrington studied a patient called KF
- His short-term forgetting of auditory information was much greater than that of visual stimuli
- Therefore, KF’s brain is restricted to the phonological loop
