Evaluation of Working Memory Model Flashcards
Dual testing
Participants get confused by lists of items that sound similar but not by items with similar meaning. Suggests that the phonological loop encodes acoustically. Baddely (2003) found that similar sounding letters are not recalled as well as dissimilar sounding letters.
Brain scanning evidence
Brain scanning has shown some evidence for the localisation of different subcomponents of the working memory. Paulesu et al (1993) demonstrated that different regions of the brain were activated when undertaking tasks that employed the phonological store and articulately rehearsal system. The central executive is linked to the central executive.
