evaluate Howell's (2005) contemporary study (16) Flashcards
para 1
AO1
-aims:
-to determine whether AM is more efective in producing change than no treatmeny
-to investigate whether improvement in treatment can be predicted by pre treatment offender characteristics (eg. how ready are they for treatment?)
para 2
AO1
-method:
-ppts attended 10x 2 hr sessions of an AMP
-ppts then completed outcome measures by completing 2 internally used questionnaires that asked about their experiences of anger and their triggers pre and post treatment, with follow up assessments at 2 and 6 months later
-2 correctional officers or 1 staff member would complete the Staff Rating Scake For Aggression for each ppt
-ppts also reoported on their own behaviour over the same reporting period
para 3
AO1
-sample
-418 offenders (all male)
–mean age 28.8 years old
-285 ppts completed the post intervention assessment
-78 completed the 2 month follow up assessment
-21 completed the 6 month follow up assessment
para 4
AO1:
-findings:
-offenders who completed the AMP showed significantly greater improvement in their anger knowledge compared to a cntrl group
-motivated offenders are predicted to make more positive change than unmotivated offenders
-overall, the impact of the AMP was small and improvements weren’t always maintained some months after the course had finished
