depresses CNS and causes respiratory depression
stops cardiac output
both should occur at same time
mostly horses
toxic to humans - gloves and eye cover
only IV, needs to go in over 10-15 seconds - too slow and will collapse but wont die, too fast it will have cardiac arrest before it goes unconscious

horse -
free bullet most common - cross in middle of forehead
cattle -
horn to eye cross - same point if captive bolt or free
sheep -
free - if no horns then like a horse, if horns then behind head
for goats always act as though they have horns
captive - if no horns then straight through top of head, if horns then behind ridge of head aiming down towards tongue
pig -
thick skull, small brain
captive bolt - heaviest cartridge and only in young pigs
free bullet - big shotgun in the forehead
captive bolt
stuns by percussive force - penetrating or non penetrating
then killed by pithing or bleeding
stored in locked box with bolts separate
bleeding
sever carotids and jugulars - in emergency go through angle of jaw with blade going through to spine (cant be eaten if done this)
immediately after stunning while in tonic phase

not in animals for human consumption
wire or rod through hole made by bolt
push towards tail, damaged brain steam and top of spinal cord
