CPR Flashcards
RECOVER
5 domains -
preparedness and prevention
basic life support (ABC)
advanced life support (DEF)
monitoring
post cardiac arrest care
classes - indicate whether an intervention should be performed (1-3)
levels - how well the intervention is supported as being effective in literature (a-c)
clinical signs of pulmonary arrest
discoloured blood or cessation of bleeding
gasping or apnoea
high CRT
discoloured mms
no heart sounds or palpable pulse
central eye
mydriasis (dilated pupils)
cranial nerve arreflexia
muscle relaxation
ABCDEF
A - airway
B - breathing
C - circulation
D - drugs - adrenaline/atropine - 2x low dose, 1x high
E - electrical stimulation
F - follow up
CPR algorithm
right lateral recumbancy
1 cycle - 2 mins
- 100-120 compressions/min, 1/3-1/2 chest width
- ventilation - 10/min
- initiate monitoring - ECG and ETCO2
check
asystole - continue for another cycle
vfib - continue while charging defibrilator, give 1 shock, continue CPR
check
repeat until cardiac activity resumes or give up
Monitoring
look for pulse - don’t take more than 10 seconds between compressions
ECG for rhythm evaluation
end tidal CO2 - tells you when to ventilate and when to switch to another person, CO2 will jump up if normal function returns
blood-gas and electrolyte analysis - helpful in identifying underlying causes
cardiopulmonary arrest contributing factors
myocardial disease
hypoxia
extreme temperature or pH
altered electrolytes
toxemia
