Fjord
A long, deep, narrow, inlet of the sea between high cliffs.
Navigable
Any body of water able to be sailed or be crossed.
Constitutional Monarchy
A form of government in which monarch arts act as head of state within the guide lines of the constitution.
European Union
A group of countries who’s governments work together.
Euro
The official money used in Europe.
Uninhabitable
A place unsuitable to live in.
Geysers
A hot spring in which water boils, sending a tall column of water and steam into the air.
Socialism
A way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies.
Alliances
A union or association formed of countries or organizations.
Balance of Power
A distribution of power among nations or groups so that no single one is stronger then the other.
Confederation
An organization that consists of a number of parties or groups united in an allegiance of league.
Neutral
Not helping or supporting either side in a conflict or disagreement.
Ghetto
A section of a city in which Jews were required to live in, during former times in most European countries.
Region
A part of a country or the world having definable characteristics but not always fixed boundaries.
Autocratic Rule
Is a government by a single person having unlimited power.
Renaissance
The period of European history at the end of the middle ages and the rise of the modern world during the 14th century through the 17th century.
City-States
An independent country whose land is surrounded by another city or country.
Mountain Range
A line of mountains connected by a high ground.
Direct Democracy
A government in which the citizens vote for political changes.
Representative Democracy
A government where people would elect their leaders and the leaders in power would have the power to rule and make laws.
Citizenship Rights
A class of rights that protect individuals’ freedom from infringement by governments and private organizations, and they also ensure one’s ability to participate in the civil.
Multiculturalism
The doctrine that several different cultures can coexist peacefully and properly in a single country.
Industrialization
The process in which a society or country (or world) transforms itself from a primarily agricultural society into one based on the manufacturing of goods and services.
Tundra
A large area of flat land in northern parts of the world where there are no trees and the ground is always frozen.
Tsar
A king or emperor of Russia
Free-Enterprise
A economic system where businesses have the freedom to operate without government control.
Socialist
Someone who believes in equality and in a communally beneficial system of government.
Communist
A person who supports or believes in the principles of communism which is a way of organizing a society in which the government owns the things that are used to make and transport products and there is no privately owned property.
Glasnost
A soviet policy of permitting open discussions of political and social issues.
