Eukaryotic cells-Plant cell specific Flashcards
Cell wall
It gives the cell structural support and protection. Also acts as a filtering system/mechanism. It surrounds the cell membrane and can be tough flexible and rigid.
Chloroplasts
They convert light energy into stable chemical energy for photosynthesis.
Vacuole
Lined with a membrane and filled with liquid, the function is to store food and nutrients for the plant.
Tonoplast
Keeps the vacuoles acid. This allows the enzymes to break down food. Also pumps potassium in and out of the vacuole.
Amyloplasts
Found in the roots storage tissues, they store and synthesize starch through the polymerization of glucose.
Plasmodesmata
Microscopic channels that traverse the cell walls, enabling transport and communication.
Pits
Small openings in the cell wall which plays an important role in water transport. They allow the flow of water and nutrients in to the plant.
