Eukaryotic cell -Plant and Animal cells Flashcards
Plasma membrane
Provides a fixed environment inside the cell as well as protection for the cell. It can transport nutrients into the cell and toxic substances out.
Cytoplasm
Acts as a buffer and protects the genetic material of the cell as well as the cellular organelles from damage caused by movement and collision of cells.
Nucleus
Controls the activity of the cell as well as containing genes that contain hereditary information.
Nucleolus
A dynamic membraneless structure with a primary function of ribosomal RNA synthesis and ribosomes biogenesis.
Endoplasmic reticulum
The rough ER is involved with quality control and dispatch of some proteins. Smooth ER is associated with lipid manufacture, metabolism, steroid and hormone production as well as detoxification function.
Golgi apparatus
Responsible for transporting, modifying and packaging proteins and lipids.
Vesicles
They store and transport materials within the cell.
Lysosomes
Membrane-bound cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes. They also break down excess or worn-out cell parts.
80s Ribosomes
Large complex molecules that catalyzes the synthesis of proteins. They select aminoacylated transfer RNAs based on the sequences of protein-encoding.
Mitochondria
Produce energy for the cells survival and functioning.
Centriole
Produce cilia during interphase, aster and the spindle during cell division.
