Eukaryotic cells Flashcards
Lysosome definition
transports substances in and out of the cell via cell surface membrane and between organelles some are formed by the golgi apparatus or the endoplasmic reticulum while others are formed at the cell surface
cell wall definition
supports plant cell
endoplasmic rectilium definition
processes and packages new lipids and proteins. it also makes lysosomes
golgi apparatus definition
the smooth synthesizes and processes lipids / the rough folds and processes proteins made by ribosomes
vesicle cell definition
contains digestive enzymes these are kept seperate from the cytoplasm by a surrounding membrane and can be used to digest invaiding cells or to break down worn out organelles in the cell
nucleus definition
chromatin is made from proteins and DNA. DNA controls cell activity. the pores allow substances eg.RNA to move between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. the nucleus makes ribosomes
mitochondrion definition
the site of aerobic resiration. found in large numbers of cells that are very active and require lots of energy
ribosome definition
site of protein synthesis
microvilli definition
found in cells that are involved in processes like absorption such as Edithelial cells in the small intestine. they increase surface area of cell membrane
cell surface plasma membrane definition
regulates movement of substances in and out of the cell. also has receptor molecules on it which allows it to detect or respond to chemicals like hormones
chloroplast definition
site where photosynthesis takes place. some parts of photosynthesis takes place in the grana and other parts happen in the stroma (a thick fluid)
