Mechanism of Action of Etomidate
Short-acting hypnotic that acts at the level of the reticular activating system within the brain
Contraindications of Etomidate
Hypersensitivity, Labor & Delivery
Adverse Effects of Etomidate
Apnea of short duration, respiratory depression, hypoventilation, hyperventilation, dysrhythmias, hypotension, hypertension, NV, involuntary muscle movement, pain at the injection site.
Precautions of Etomidate
May be enhanced when given with other
CNS depressants
Adult dose and admin of Etomidate
Adult: 0.2 to 0.6 mg/kg IV over 30-60 seconds
Pedi dose and admin of Etomidate
Pedi: 0.2 to 0.4 mg/kg IV over 30-60 seconds
