Hydrolyzed to inactive metabolites via ester hydrolysis (does not matter how much you give, everyone goes to sleep/wakes up in same amount of time)

85% renal, 15% biliary
Etomidate CV Effects
Decreases: SBP, SVR. Increases: HR
Etomidate Pulmonary Effects
Minimal respiratory depression, increased with opioids
Etomidate CNS Effects
Decrease: CBF, ICP, CMRO2

2 mg/ml vials
Etomidate Induction dose
0.2-0.4 mg/kg
Etomidate Things to be aware of
Burns on injection, causes myoclonus, increases PONV, no analgesia ***adrenal suppression
Etomidate Adrenal Suppression***
Inhibits 11 beta-hydroxylase- decreases cortisol and aldosterone - and to a lesser extent 17 alpha-hydroxylase - higher up in chain inhibits conversion to 11 beta-hydroxylase
