Believes that black children are raised by MTV and rappers.
Family structure and paternal support
Asian families have much more pro-school attitude than black families. Also because Asian families are rarely lone parents families they offer a bigger support network for children so they excel more in school.

Believes lone parenthood in African Caribbean homes leads to the mother struggling to primary socialise the children which can effect their education.
Labelling and teacher racism
Teachers have racialised expectations about Black pupils and expected more discipline problems. They saw their behaviour as threatening. Black students were more likely than others to be punished for the same behaviour. They felt like teachers underestimated their ability.
Pupil Identities
Teachers assume the children would have a poor grasp of English and so they used simplistic language when speaking.
