What is a Just War?
A war that is fought for the right reasons and in the right way. It must only be for a positive outcome.
Who put forward the idea of a just war?
The idea was first made up by Augustine and then Thomas Aquinas put forward the actual rules for the war itself.
Main three rules of a Just War?
Legitimate authority, fought for a just reason and only fought if it is for a better outcome.
Define pacifism?
The belief that any kind of violence is not justifiable and that there is no need for it.
What denomination are pacifist?
The Quakers
Beliefs about forgiveness?
Christians believe that everyone should be given the chance to repent for their sins and show regret for their actions.
What is judgement?
Christians believe that this is the day that Christ judges us, so they believe that it is not our job to judge anyone on earth.
Four goals of punishment?
Retribution- giving punishment that fits the crime
Protection- giving protection to the society from someone that may put it in danger.
Reform- to help the offender improve themselves
Deterrence- to give warning to the public that bad actions will be punished
What is liberation theology?
The idea that God wants believers to stand united together against any kind of injustice that happens.
What do Christians believe about war and violence?
That it is unjustifiable and should not be used under any circumstances at all.
