Consent
Revealing true aims of study at least letting ppt know what will happen, involves parental consent if children involved
Deception
Deceiving ppts must be kept to a minimum, with holding info to avoid influencing behavior is acceptable but deliberately providing false info is not
Confidentiality
Ppts info will be protected and with be kept anonymous if published
Right to withdraw
Even after giving consent ppts still have right to leave experiment at any point, ppts must be made aware of this
Debrief
If informed consent cannot be obtained ppts must be fully debriefed after, tells them about their right to withdraw info after experiment
Protection from harm
Ppt should be no worse off from when they arrive, risk is considered ok if it’s not greater than what would be experienced in everyday life
Validity
The extent to which something is measuring what it is claiming to measure
Internal validity
The extent to which a study established a direct cause and effect link between IV and dv
Types of external validity
Ecological validity,population validity and temporal validity
Construct validity
