Use of CPA code of ethics
- Guide psychologists conduct, thinking, and planning
- Helps to resolve ethical questions, issues, or dilemmas
- Inform development of codes of conduct or other specific codes
- Assist in adjudication of complaints against psychologists

CPA decision-making process
1.) Identify persons affected by decision
2.) Identify ethically relevant issues/practices
3.) Consider own biases, external pressure, personal needs, self-interest , or sociocultural context that could influence choice selection
4.) Develop alternative courses of action
5.) Short and long-term cost/benefit analysis for each course of action on persons likely involved
6.) Choice of course of action
7.) Action, with commitment to assume responsibility for action
8.) Evaluate results of course of action
9.) Assume responsibility for consequences of action or re-engage in decision-making process if ethical issue not resolved
10.) Take appropriate action to prevent future occurrences of dilemma
