how much energy do computers manufactured now waste?
as little of energy as possible because of the design equipment they have.
what are some ways to minimise the energy usage on a PC?
- Adjust your computer’s energy settings.
- Shutdown and unplug your computer when not in use.
- don’t overcharge your laptop. Only charge it when needed.
what are your digital footprints?
every time you buy goods (online), find travel directions, book appointments, send emails post on social media etc, companies can build a better picture of:
- what you like
- where you like to go
- what do you buy and eat
- who you speak to and when.
when is it okay for companies to have your digital footprints?
- when you give them your permission.
- when you aware you gave permission
what can companies do with your digital footprints?
- Use it for their own advertising
- Target you with personally relevant products
- Pass on to governments or the police
- Sell it on to third parties
when do you get loyalty cards?
supermarket offer loyalty cards in return of you personal data (e.g the things we buy and when we buy it)
how can this data be used to benefit society?
- City planners use it to build roads based on travel patterns
- Health awareness campaigns use it where the least nutritious food is consumed
