Ethics
The correct rules of conduct necessary when carrying out research
Protection from undue stress of harm
Ensure no harm is done to participants, nothing done to participants that will have a permanent effect on their physical or psychological health
Undue stress
Higher level of stress than an individual may experience on a day-to-day basis
Informed consent
Participants must be told about the nature of the study and agree to participate + must be told what rights they have e.g right to withdraw
Deception
Misinformation or not telling the participant the complete goal of the study (slight deception which causes no stress or harm may be used in some cases)
Right to withdraw
If participants wish to withdraw from the study they should feel no pressure or coercion from the psychologist to remain and their data must be withdrawn from the study
Debriefing
True aims and purpose of the study must be revealed to the participants at the end of the study (any deception must be justified + participants must leave the study in the sae physical and psychological state in which they arrived)
Anonymized
Participants identities must not be revealed in the publication of a study or any other use of data obtained from a study
