What is diversity?
Diversity is to do with acknowledgement of alterity among people in terms of their community, culture, beliefs, life experiences, individuality
what is alterity?
otherness of people
what is equality? (legal)
Equality is to do with fairness of opportunity and observing the rights of people so that their alterity is not discriminated against
Equality of outcome is not the same as equality of opportunity
What is equity? (ethical)
Treating people justly does not mean treating everyone identically, if it disregards features of diversity that can place people at an unfair advantage in society
Prejudice and discrimination come from what type of thinking?
fast thinking
list and describe the 5 levels of prejudice.
- Anti-locution – things said negatively about a person
- Avoidance – don’t have anything to do with the people you are negatively speaking of
- Discrimination – do things to affect them unfairly based on underlying prejudice
- Violence – progression of discrimination
- Murder – ultimate form of violence
List the 5 levels of racism.
- Underlying prejudice
- Attribution of fixed traits - Apply stereotypes
- notions of superiority and inferiority

- overt racism
