Concerned with what ought to be, what is right or wrong, good or bad.

Attitude, belief, and values (both personal and professional)
What at the 7 moral principles in decision making?
Autonomy- self determination, freedom of choice
Beneficence - seek balance between what is good and wrong
Nonmaleficence- duty to do no harm
Justice - allocation of resources a person has a right to receive
Veracity- devotion to truthfulness
Fidelity - faithfulness
Confidentiality- respect for privileged behaviour.
What constitutes an ethical dilemma in a workplace?
A choice between two or more alternatives create a conflict between an individuals value system and their moral obligation to the pt, family, or significant other, or employer.
What can you do when faced with an ethical dilemma?
Clarify personal values
Identify situation at hand
Acquire knowledge of laws and professional codes
Understand ethical values and principles of others.
What is a surgical conscience?
A concept of self-inspection occupied with moral obligation.
