What are normative ethics?
Normative ethics is work around how people should act based on prescribed morals (rights and wrongs).
What are descriptive ethics?
Descriptive ethics is work around how people do act when faced with a moral choice.
What are deontological ethics?
Deontological ethics asserts the inherent rightness of wrongness of actions based on rules or duties, rather than their consequences.
What are consequential ethics?
Consequential ethics judges the rightness or wrongness of actions based on the outcomes they produce, prioritising the overall consequences over adherence to rules or duties.
What is virtue ethics?
Virtue ethics emphasises the character and virtues of the individual as the primary basis for ethical behaviour, focusing on the development of good habits and moral excellence rather than specific rules or consequences.
What is natural law?
A body of unchanging moral principles regarded as a basis for all human conduct.
Define social ethics.
Social ethics is the systematic reflection on the moral dimensions of social structures, systems, issues, and communities. Social ethics can be thought of as a branch of ‘applied ethics,’ the application of ethical reasoning to social problems.
Define personal ethics.
Personal ethics in religion refers to an individual’s moral principles and values shaped by their religious beliefs and teachings, guiding their behaviour and decision making in accordance with their faith.
