Ethical concepts
these ethical concepts are the principal that govern ethical practise
beneficence
the consideration of the benefits or gains from research in relation to the risks
non-maleficence
do no harm
integrity
is the commitment to search for knowledge and an honest report of the findings
justice
is the distribution of fair access of the benefits from the research to everyone
respect
everyone has value in regard to their welfare and beliefs and everyone has a right to make their own decisions
ethical guidelines
these ethical guidelines together make up a code that is used for ethical practise
voluntary participation
participants must be willingly and freely sign up to be involved in the research
informed consent
Participants must understand the nature and purpose of the study as well as the risks before signing. if under 18, the parent or legal guardian must consent
withdrawal rights
allow participants to leave the experiment at any time, or remove their results from the research
debriefing
Participants are informed about research aims, results and conclusions and are provided psychological support during this time
deception
Participants must know the nature of the experiment unless it may impact their behaviour in research. if deception is used there must be thorough debriefing
confidentiality
participants have the right for privacy and protection, and that security of results as to be maintained
