Rules for BPS
Consent, Deception, Confidentiality,debriefing, withdrawel, protection
Consent
give informed consent
children should have parent consent
payment shouldn’t induce risky behaviour
special safe guarding procedures take place when participants are unable to communicate and unable to give full consent (mental illness)
Deception
don’t intentially lie to participants
strong medical or scientific justification if deception is required
appropriate consultation must take place if deception is involved
confidentialitiy
source of all information should be kept secret
legislation, including the data protection act should be adhered to
if confidentialitity cannot be guaranteed subject should be aware
withdrawel
subjects should be aware of the right to withdraw at any time
may be done retrospectively by refusing permission for the data to be used
debriefing
participant should be fully debriefed
participant experience should be dicussed to access any negative side effects
debriefing should be in the form of active intervention before leaving the research setting
protection
keep life of participant out of public affairs
P can ask for their results to be removed from results
protected from harm
risks should be equivilant to normal daily activities
