Team Physicians and Confidentiality?

Team physicians not bound in the same sense by HIPAA regulations or ethical code of privacy. Health information is considered part of the employment record of professional athletes, and as such does not fall under the same regulations.

At the college level, FERPA permits team physicians employed by a college or student health clinic to disclose medical information with a patient’s consent to school officials who have an educational interest in the information.
