what are ethical issues
A
- arise when a conflict exists between the rights of pps in research studies and the goals of research to produce valid data

what is informed consent
A
- making pps aware of the aims, procedures, rights
- shouldn’t be coerced or obligated
- researcher may see it as pointless as the pps will know the aims

A
- misleading or withholding information from pps

what is protection from harm
A
- pps shouldn’t be placed at any risk
- protected from physical and psychological harm
- pps must be reminded that they can withdraw

what is privacy and confidentiality
A
- right to control information about themselves
- personal data should be protected

how do you deal with informed consent
A
- issued with a consent letter
- must be signed
- parental consent needed for anyone under age of 16

how do you deal with deception and protection from harm
A
- pps should be given a full debrief at the end of the study
- told what their data was used for
- right to withdraw and withhold their data
- counselling offered if needed

A
- maintain anonymity
- often use individuals initials (HM)
