what is conflict?
A
- conflict between rights of participants and aims of research
- BPS protect people with respect, competence, responsibility, integrity
- ethics committee weigh up costs and benefits when deciding study

what is informed consent?
A
- get permission
- participant should make well informed judgement before doing study

what are alternative forms of consent?
A
presumptive - ask similar group
prior generalisation -agree to be deceived
retrospective - get consent after study

what is deception?
A
- misleading
- deliberately withholding info so consent isn’t well informed
- should be given debrief at end of study

what is protection from harm?
A
- should be at no more than in everyday life
- right to withdraw, reassured of behaviour, should provide counselling

what is privacy/confidentiality?
A
- right to control info about selves and if invaded, confidentiality should be respected
