Protection of participants
No psychological or physical harm must be done to the participants
Confidentiality
Confidentiality; all information obtained must be confidential
Withdrawal
At the beginning of the study, the participants should be told that they have the right to leave the study at any time and can withdraw their data and the end if they wish
Consent
Participants must be informed about the nature of the study and agree to participate
Debriefing
True aims and purpose must be revealed - any deceptions must be revealed and justified; all participants should leave the study without undue stress
Deception
Generally should not be used; researcher does not want the participants to know the exact aim of a study because it could affect the results; slight deception may be used by should be explained at the end
