Q

Why is obtaining consent an ethical concern?

A

Because written form is not always appropriate and possible; method used must always be documented

Research design is flexible and dynamic, so consent seeking is ongoing and should be renegotiated throughout the process

Q

Why is researcher-participant relationships an ethical concern?

A

1.Because there may be a sort of impact or coercion in terms of voluntary participation if researchers know the subjects. Especially is the researcher is in a position of power by the invitee.

  1. “Pseudo-intimacy” when subjects end up revealing more than intended to.
  2. Dual function , therapist and researcher—> at risk of becoming a therapeutic interview (which is not what the participant consented to)

A

Because it raises issues with confidentiality and potential harm:

  • misrepresentation : findings are construction
