Ethernet Flashcards
How many collision domains does a switch have?
The same amount of ports a switch has
How many broadcast domains does a switch have
1
How many broadcast domains does a router have?
Each port is a broadcast domain
According to the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet specification. what does half duplex ports use
CSMA/CD or Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection. It helps prevent collisions and to permit retransmitting if one occurs
If a hub is attached to the switch, will the connection be half or full duplex
Half duplex because the hub can only do half duplex.
How to tell is you are having a duplex issue
Switch#sh int f0/1
If input error and late collision is increasing, you have duplex issue.
If there was broadcast storm, the “no buffers” and “ignored” stats would increase
How many bits are in MAC address
48 bits. 6 groups, each has 1 byte. First 24 bits are the Organizational Unique Identifier(OUI)
What is encapsulation
Wraps the data by the head by a label (that has additional data)
Protocol Data Unit: A name for each layer
What is Cisco Three-Layer Model
Core: Connectivity between distribution layers for large LAN environments. High speed backbone with no packet manipulation
Distribution: Connectivity to services, Routing and packet manipulation, Access Lists, Scalability
Access: Provides endpoints, Device connectivity, Port Security, but not access control lists (ACLs)
When to use crossover cable
