Estar + participio Flashcards
Many adjectives in Spanish are actually past participles of verbs.
Add -ado to the root of -ar verbs.
decorar (to decorate) – decorado (decorated)
Add -ido to the root or -er and -ir verbs.
conocer (to know/recognize) – conocido (knew / recognized)
preferir (to prefer) –preferido (prefered)
The past participle is frequently used with estar to describe conditions that are the result of a previous action.
In those cases, the past participle agrees with the subject in gender and number.
Singular: The painter is seated.
Plural: The walls were painted.
Singular: El pintor esta sentado
The painter is seated.
Plural: Las paredes estaban pintadas.
The walls were painted.
