A
  • life threatening symptoms: platelet apheresis and cytoreductive therapy with hydroxyurea
  • non life threatening symptoms: low doses hydroxyurea, anagrelide, interferon Alfa plus low dose aspirin

A
  • most common myeloproliferative disorder
  • occurs in middle aged and older adults
  • characterized by thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications
  • stem cell disorder with an increase in megakaryocytes and platelet counts >600K
  • JAK2 mutation
