What is ET?
A
Neoplastic proliferation of myeloid cells especially Platelets (RBCs and Granulocytes also increased.

What is the mutation causing ET?
A
JAK2 mutation on chromosome 9 with substitution of valine for a Phe.

What are some of the physical findings with Primary ET?
A
- Splenomegaly in 40%
2. Aortic and Mitral valve thickening or vegetations may occur

What would one expect to see on PB smear?
A
Platelets with abnormal morphology

What are the primary risks involved with ET?
A
Clotting or Hemorrhaging

What are the treatments used to bring the platelet count down?
A
1Hydroxyurea
2.Anagrelide

What are some of the factors pre-disposing primary ET patients to Thrombosis?
A
- Previous thrombosis
- Advanced Age
- Associated cadivascular risk factors i.e smoking
