Erythrocytes Flashcards
What is the function of platelets?
form clots or plugs to stop bleeding
How can the number of red blood cells be calculated?
amount of haemoglobin per fixed volume
What is the mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and how is it calculated?
the average volume of one RBC = volume of large number of red blood cells divided by the number of red blood cells
What is the mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) and how is it calculated?
the average amount of haemoglobin in one RBC = the amount of haemoglobin in a large number of red blood cells divided by the number of red blood cells
What is the mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration and how is it calculated?
the average concentration of haemoglobin in one RBC = amount of haemoglobin in one red blood cell divided by the volume of one red blood cell
What is anaemia?
the reduction in haemoglobin or red cell concentration in the blood resulting in a reduced supply of oxygen to the tissues
What are the signs of anaemia?
pallor face
glossitis
koilonychia
