Erosion ---> Etc Flashcards

1
Q

Describe hydraulic action

A

They force water into cracks in the rock , under pressure . This helps to break the rock up .
This is hydraulic action

Q

Describe Spit formation

A

Longshore drift transports material along the coastline
Spits formed in shallow and sheltered water when there is a change in direction of coastline
Deposition occurs resulting in rise of shingle and sand.
Finer material is then formed which helps build up the rest of the spit
As it grows , wind direction changes and results in the forming of the spit
Sally marsh may form in the sheltered low energy zone behind spit
