Erosion and transportation. Flashcards
Hydraulic action (erosion).
Force of water on the sides and in cracks.
Abrasion (erosion).
This is the wearing away of the bank by the load of the river.
Solution (erosion).
The removal of chemical ions in the rock, especially calcium.
Attrition (erosion).
Is the wearing away of the load carried by the river.
Traction (transportation).
Is where the load rolls and bounces along the river bed.
Saltation (transportation).
Is where smaller particles or stones bounce along the river bed.
Suspension (transportation).
Finer particles carried within the flow of the river without touching the river bed.
Solution (transportation).
Is the most common where river run through areas of carbonate rocks and gradually remove material in solution.
