Erikson's Identity Development Theory Flashcards

1
Q

What is Erikson’s Identity Development Theory?

A
  • Each stage is characterized by a crisis
  • Successful resolution of the crisis leads to healthy development
  • Failure to resolve the crisis means ongoing struggles with those issues through life
  • The stages (time limits) are set by nature and are resolved through the social influence of nurture.
  • Healthy development includes balanced tension between the two poles of the crisis.
