ergonomics Flashcards
what is ergonomics
process of designing products and workplaces to fit the people who use them. it imporves the human interaction with a product, environment or workspacee and minimises risk of injury
ergonomics of someone sitting at a desk for a long time
If the height of the computer, chair, desk are not correctly aligned to the user, it can cause pain and repetitive strain injury.
designers will consider the measurements of humans and products to ensure they function well together
what is anthropometric data
study of the human body and its measurements and proportions
data will be collected from a large sample of people of a variety of sizes to gather detailed body measurements . weight measurements are also taken to understand the stress or load a component may need to withstand
what two types of data are there
quantitative data and qualitative data
explain one way ergonomics can aid carrying a product
design will make carrying a product more comfortable. inclusion of hand holds in boxes or large bulky items will make lifting easier and safer. Bags can be designed to have adjustable straps and belts to spread load more easily and reduce strain on a specific area
quantitative data
generates numerical or measureable data or data that can be used in statistics
qualitative data
provides an insight into thoughts, opinions and is often expressed in words
different presentations of data
bar charts or par charts - quant. data
spreadsheet - calculating and presenting costs and sale forecasts
graphs and charts - shows trends and patterns in data
video and audio - feedback from reactions from focus groups+interviews
documents and reports - summarised data with key areas highlighted or a transcript from a recorded interview
