Equipment Exam Flashcards
oxygen tank
Source of compressed gas (O2)
E tank 650 L
2000 PSI full
oxygen tank pressure gauge
Shows how much pressure is in the O2 tank
2000 PSI full tank
< 500 PSI is when you want to switch the tank
oxygen and scavenger hoses/connection
O2 hose carries gas from the tank to the patient
scavenger hose carries CO2 and waste inhalant from patient to scavenging system
oxygen flow meter
Controls the flow of O2 into the breathing circuit
oxygen flush valve
100% oxygen - bypasses the flow meter and vaporizer
useful for pressure checks or dilute inhalant
vaporizer
allows for controlled amounts of vapor to be produced from anesthetic liquid
fresh gas inlet
Where gas enters the circuit
Inspiratory & expiratory valves
unidirectional valves that prevent rebreathing of CO2
Corrugated tubing
delivers gas to the patient
Y-piece
connects corrugated tubing to the patient
attaches to ET tube or mask
CO2 absorbent
soda lime or carbalime acts as a base to neutralize carbonic acid
takes CO2 out of the gas to allow rest of the gas to be rebreathed
Pressure gauge/manometer in the circuit
Indicates pressure in the rebreathing circle
Should be (0-2cmH2O)
Pop-off valve
allows excess gas to leave the breathing system and into scavenging system
scavenger holding tank
stores expired waste inhalant and CO2
reservoir bag
reservoir for the gas after CO2 has been removed
