Equipment Flashcards
What is the function of the non return pressure relief valve downstream of the vaporiser on the back bar?
Stop contamination of vaporisers. Opens at 35-40kPa.
What is collision broadening
IR spectroscopy uses specific wavelengths to detect gases. If two of a similar wavelength are detected it can confused the analyser and lead to falsely high readings.
Example; CO2 and NO2
How do we measure gases in the anaesthetic machine, and how does this work
Infra-red absorption spectroscopy; a molecule made up of one or more atoms will absorb infrared light in a given wavelength.
CO2 peak absorption is at 4.28um.
Take a sample of gas of known size, shine a light through using a filter for specific wavelengths, then the light absorbed is inversely proportional to the concentration of the gas (as more light is absorbed if more gas molecules were present).
