4
Q

advantages of nitrox

A

if using a normal dive computer then greater safety margins so reduced DCI incident
increased bottom time when using a nitrox computer

6
Q

buddy check

A

Air: air fully on then 1/4 turn back. octupus and normal reg both taste fine, gauge pressure doesn’t drop when you breathe in and out
BCD: jacket holds pressure, dump valves, inflate + deflate button, Inflate and deflate on drysuit
W: weights right hand release
final check: rest of kit (hood, gloves, fins, mask, buddyline, SMB, knife)

Q

downstream vs upstream valves

A

downstream: 2nd stage fails YES air to diver
upstream: 2nd stage fails NO air to diver

8
Q

problem with spare air method

A

fits HSE regs but doesnt supply enough air for safety/ DCI stop as only lasts 2 mins at 10m

16
Q

what is ‘in o2 servicing?’

A

all parts are oxygen compatible and clean (nitrox)

17
Q

disadvantages of nitrox with equipment

A

needs special serving

easily contaminated

18
Q

how often does nitrox equ. need serving?

A

12 months

19
Q

with commercial diving what percentage of o2 requires in o2 serving

A

over 25 %

20
Q

Air cylinder standards

Competent diver needs to check their cylinder every … hrs

A

6 hrs

21
Q

Periodic air cylinder inspection is every … years

A

2.5 years from manufacturer date

22
Q

Periodic inspection and hydrostatic test is every … years

A

5 yrs

23
Q

B+W tab on cylinder vs blue tab

A

B+W normal breathing air

Blue - nitrox

24
Q

On an air cylinder what does MOD stand for?

A

Max breathing depth

25
Q

Anything over …% of o2 must be o2 cleaned and serviced

A

25 %

26
Q

IDEST stands for

A

Inspectorate of diving equipment serving and testing

27
Q

PIAT stands for

A

Periodic inspection and test

28
Q

Air cylinder normal bar pressure

A

232 bar

29
Q

Aluminium vs steel cylinder

A

Aluminium is resistant to corrosion but bigger

Steel is smaller (less buoyant) but stronger

30
Q

What does WC stand for

average WC sizes

A

Water capacity

10, 12, 15 litres

31
Q

What does WP stand for?

Average WP

A

working pressure

207, 232, 300 Bar

32
Q

what does cp stand for

standard size

A

capacity pressure

207, 232, 300 Bar

33
