What are Hypsodont teeth? What are the 2 types and how do they differ?
Long crowns with short roots in animals that eat fibrous material.
- Radicular - eventually forms a true root (horse, cow)
- Aradicular - grows continuously (rabbits, GP)

Canines and Molars

Both should be done annually

What does diphyodont mean?
Two sets of teeth, one (deciduous) being shed and replaced by a permanent set, but they are usually shed before birth or shortly after.
What does aradicular hypsodont mean? Which teeth are affected?
They have no anatomical root therefore the incisors are always growing.
Rabbits are anisognathic. What does this mean?
The maxilla is wider than the mandible.
What is the most common dental problem among rabbits?
Tooth overgrowth
Rodents are gnawers. What does this mean in regards to jaw movement?
They have wide rostro-caudal movement of the temporomandibular joint

- Selective food intake
- Dropping food
- Anorexia
- Occular/nasal discharge
- Excessive salivation
- Changes in grooming behaviour
