Define the Crown
the portion of the tooth you can see
Define the Root of the tooth
the portion in the bone
Define Enamel
Hard, outer coating that covers the crown. It is impermeable and durable.
What is the cementum?
The outer portion of the root, it is permeable.
What is the Dentin?
The layer under the enamel and under the cementum. It will stain if the enamel has been broken down.
What is the Pulp?
Inside layer of the tooth, contaisn nerves and blood vessels. It is the “live” part of the tooth
What is the Apical Delta?
The nerve endings and blood vessels that branch out from the root
What is the bone that holds the tooth in?
Alveolar bone
What is attached gingiva?
Where gingiva attaches to cementum on tooth
What is free gingiva?
Extends above the attached gingiva
What is the Sulcus?
SPace between the free gingiva and tooth
What is the mucoid?
Harder gingiva as you go up higher
What is the Cemento-enamel junction?
Where enamel meets cementum
What is the periodontal ligament?
Holds the tooth in the alveolus (socket) by attaching tooth to alveolar bone
What is the mesial portion?
The surface closest to the midline
What is the distal portion?
Furthest from midline, toward outside of mouth
