what is colic?
a general term for abdominal pain.
they will have changes in posture and abdominal distention at the right or left flank altering abdominal counter.
where does the esophagus run? is it palpable?
travels down the left side of the neck. it is generally not palpable.
What can you auscultate on the left side of the abdomen?
start at the paralumbar fossa. listen for 1-2 min. move ventrally and continue.
large intestines: produce waxing and waning sounds that are deep and rumbling
small intestines: fluid, flowing and splashing

what structures lay in the left body wall? starting from the paralumbar fossa and progressing ventrally

begin in the dorsal paralumbar fossa and progress ventrally
you will hear ileocecal valve sounds. sounds like a toilet flushing sound, 2-3 times per minute.
