Medial Scapula Right or Left
DP: Contralateral side of horse; Tall bale
Stab: Wrist of contact hand
DC: Calcaneal or Pisiform of INFERIOR hand; Fingers pointing down scapula spine toward point of shoulder
SC: Dorsal ridge of scapula
LOC: Following line of scapula
NOTES:
ASSISTANT needs to lift leg
BEND posterior knee to get LOC
Lateral Scapula Left or Right
DP: Ipsilateral; Horse riding stance with superior leg slightly forward
DC: Wrapped fingers of SUPERIOR
SC: Cupped hand around anterior aspect of Fetlock
Stab: Crossed over INFERIOR hand cupping anterior aspect of Carpal joint
LOC: Following lie of scapula
NOTES: Keep back straight; Lift from legs
Humeral Head Anterior Left / Right
DP: Ipsilateral; In front of horse
DC: Calcaneal of inside hand; fingers pointing down; elbow locked into side / hip
SC: Anterior humeral head
Stab: Outside hand against shoulder to push horse of weight bearing stance
LOC: Cr-Cd; slight D-V
Humeral Head Lateral Left / Right
DP: Ipsilateral; Fencers stance with same foot forward
DC: Calcaneal of superior hand; fingers wrapping around point of shoulder
SC: Lateral humeral head
Stab: scap to push -weight over
LOC: L-M; slight D-V
Elbow Traction
DP: Ipsilateral; In front of horse
DC: Forarm of outside arm; fingers pointing medially
SC: Anterior elbow crease
Stab: Under distal cannon bone
LOC: gentle lever in flexion
Radial Head Lateral Left / Right
DP: Ipsilateral; Shallow fencers stance with same foot forward as contact
DC: Calcaneal of superior / inferior hand; Fingers wrapping around front of elbow / behind olecranon
SC: Lateral radial head - (bump cranial to olecranon process)
Stab: Inside of upper limb; against thrust
LOC: L-M
NOTES: Push over for non-weight bearing
Ulna Lateral Left / Right
DP: Ipsilateral; Shallow fencers stance with same foot forward as contact
DC: Calcaneal of inferior hand; Fingers wrapping around back of elbow parallel to ground
SC: Lateral Olecranon
Stab: Inside of upper limb; against thrust
LOC: L-M
NOTES:
Push technique
Push over for non-weight bearing
Ulna Medial Left / Right
DP: Ipsilateral; Shallow fencers stance with same foot forward as contact
DC: Fingers of inferior hand; Fingers wrapping around back of elbow parallel to ground
SC: Medial Olecranon
Stab: Outside of upper limb; against thrust; Side of body
LOC: M-L
NOTES:
Pull Technique
Non-weightbearing when thrust
Carpals Anterior Left / Right
DP: In front of horse with leg b/w knees
DC: Double thumb
SC: Anterior carpal bone
Stab: double thumb
LOC: A-P
NOTES:
Flex and extend at your knees with each carpal
Thrust with knee in extension
Accessory Carpal bone Medial Left / Right
DP: Ipsilateral; Facing caudally
DC: Fingers hooked
SC: Medial accessory carpal
Stab: Side of body; against thrust
LOC: M-L Pull
NOTES:
Joint must be in flexion
Accessory Carpal bone Lateral Left / Right
DP: Ipsilateral; Facing caudally
DC: Supported thumb
SC: Lateral accessory carpal
Stab: Inside forearm of superior arm; against thrust
LOC: L-M Push
NOTES:
Joint must be in flexion
Carpal Traction
DP: In front of horse
DC: Wrist
SC: Posterior Carpal crease
Stab: Gentle lever of lower limb
LOC: Flexion of carpus
NOTES:
Joint must be in flexion
Proximal Sesamoids Right or Left
DP: Ipsilateral; Facing cranially
DC: Thumbs
SC: Posterior proximal carpals of fetlock joint
Stab: fingers on anterior aspect of fetlock
LOC: Depending on MP in all panes
NOTES:
Sesamoids are found behind the fetlock joint
Fetlock, Pastern, Coffin joint Right / Left / FRONT / BACK
DP: Ipsilateral;
Front = Facing cranially
Back = Farriers stance
DC: Either hand on proximal
SC: Distal bone
Stab: Either hand on proximal bone
LOC: Depending on MP in all planes
NOTES:
MAKE sure stabilising phalangeal above
Greater Trochanter Dorso-Caudal Right / Left
DP: Ipsilateral; Facing cranially
DC: Calcaneal of inferior hand
SC: Greater trochanter
Stab: Against thrust
LOC: Cd-Cr; D-V
NOTES:
Must not be weight bearing when adjust
