What is meant by a long profile river?
A long profile river shows how a rivers gradient changes as it flows from its source
How does costal management (building groynes) affect coastline down drift?
The idea of groynes is to capture sand that moves down the beach via longshore drift and help build up a larger section of beach in front of an area.
How does dredging affect the coastline?
When you scoop up all the unwanted waste you are able to fit more sediment and sand on the beach which makes it looks nicer and more people will want to visit it.
How does industry affect the coastline
Industry can affect the coastline because
- people move to the coastline to live
- it can be bad for the environment
How is swanage coastline affected by physical processes ( geology discordant, headland bays, erosion/deposition)?
Because all the land is eroding and more of the citizens are leaving because the land is coming back also the beaches and sea side would becoming more unattractive.
How is swanage coastline affected by human processes ( management industry, tourism transport?)
More people move to swanage because of work also this is a good holiday resort for people to come to the UK and sea the sea side also this is a good place for management in fishing and restaurants.
Why is the sea level rising?
The sea level is rising due to global warming and the effect it has on melting the polar ice caps and glaciers which contributes to sea level rise as most of our fresh water is kept in these giant ice structures.
How bad will sea levels get and where will it affect?
It can become severe and that if all the ice caps melt the sea level would rise by 64.1 metres also places like the maldeves are already at high risk.
How will climate change affect erosion and deposition?
Is will affect erosion as there is more water so it will contribute to erosion a lot more as there is more water will smash against the rocks. It will affect deposition because now the sea will be able to move more sediment across beaches.
How will climate change affect storm frequency and the intensity of the storm?
It will make storms more apparent due to the extreme weather and therefore they will be more intense.
How will storms and surges affect people and the environment
This will cause much more destruction and will mean people will have to move and will loose homes and money.
Explain how groynes and sea walls work?
Sea walls
-sea walls deflect wave energy away from the coast.
Groynes
-In the ocean, groynes create beaches or prevent them being washed away by longshore drift.
