EQ2: 4.4 Flashcards
How does coastal management (building groynes for example) affect coastlines down drift?
It stops longshore drift from happening which means sediment is deprived in areas further down the coastline from the groynes. This affects the process of long shore drift.
How does dredging affect the coastline?
Degrading is the act of removing slit and other material from the bottom of bodies of water. It is a routine necessary in waterways around the world because sedimentation, the natural process of sand and slit washing downstream, gradually fills channels and harbours.
How does industry affect the coastline?
Different areas of coat are protected more then others as they are prioritised with certain future implants to the organisation and help of everyday life.
How does development (jobs/houses/building) impact on the coastline?
The development will not look natural and takes away the natural features of the coastline, attracting tourists and attracting people with a business.
How is Swanage coastline affected by physical processes (geology, discordant, headland/bays, erosion/deposition)?
Swanage bay is affected because of longshore drift moving sediment to the bays, from the headlands.
How is Swanage coastline being affected by human processes (management, industry, tourism, transport etc)?
Many tourists will go to Swanage Bay to see what it looks like. Therefore shops, hotels and other public sources for tourists to go will attract them.
