Why is it necessary for God to reveal himself in his word (special Rev.)?
we need to know how to come to saving faith, we are insufficient.

restoring a relationship that has been broken
Was special revalation always for the purpose of restoration?
no it was around pre-fall, but became more important post-fall
How does God reveal himself so that we can understand?
Anthropomorphic terms, condescends so we may understand, speaks in human language, used everyday experiences
What is our understanding reliant on?
Him who reveals and the Spirit that brings understanding
without the spirit our understanding is…?
doomed and foolish (romans 1:28-32)
What are the three modes of Special Revelation?
Historical events, divine speech, incarnation
What are historical events (special rev.)?
accounts recorded in scripture; how God has acted throughout history
What is divine speech (special rev)?
God spoke through his son, speaks through his spirit, inspired writers of the bible
What was incarnation (special Rev)?
Jesus’ life and speech as direct revelation from God
why is special revelation required In light of natural revelation?
it is inferior and insufficient to Gods special revelation.
what role does natural rev play with special rev?
special rev builds on it and gives it specificity.
are the harmonious and why?
yes; the source is the same and they work together.
