Epithelium HY Flashcards
Where is simple squamous epithelium found?
Pericardium, Pleura, and Peritoneum
Where is pseudostratified columnar epithelium found?
Trachea
Where is non-keratinized stratified squamous found?
Esophagus, oral mucose, anal cavity, vagina, cervix
What could a dysfunction in E-Cadherin lead to?
Malignant carcinoma & adenocarcinoma
What are the components of desmosomes (macula adherens)?
Desmoplakins, plakoglobins, keratin, transmembranous proteins (desmocollins & desmogleins)
What molecules found in gap junctions (zonula communicans)?
6 connexins; also found in cardiac and smooth muscle cells
What are the components of the hemidesmosomes?
Integrein, perlecan, fibronectin, laminin, collagen type IV, VII, XVII
What is the defect in Bullous Pemphigoid?
Auto-Ab against hemidesmosomes
How is Basal Lamina visualized?
EM
What is the role of Basal Lamina?
Serve as regeneration guide for epithelial, muscle, adipose, schwann cells using CAM and Integrins.
How is Basement Membrane visualized?
PAS +ve
What are components of the reticular lamina where the basement attaches?
Collagen Type I, III, and VII
Microvilli characteristics?
Wheat field; ~1 um, LM: found in brush border of intestine; TEM: axial bundle>20 actin filaments; glycocalyx (furry coat)=PAS +ve
Stereocilum characteristics?
Cactus; 8-15um; found male repro & inner ear epithelium
Cilium characteristics?
7-10 um; axoneme of MT (9+1 axial doublets); found in endometrium, vas efferens, gametes, resp. epithelium; Primary cilium=immotile (sensory organs); Nodal cilium=motile (gastrulation)
