Epithelium Flashcards
Simple Squamous Epithelium Location? -> endothelium and mesothelium
alveoli of the lungs, vascular endothelium, peritoneum (serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity.)
Function of Simple Squamous Epithelium ?
promote the diffusion in tissues namely the regions of gas exchange in the lungs and the exchange of the wastes and nutrients at the blood capillaries or peritoneum.
Simple Squamous Epithelium Structure?
Single layer of thin, flat shaped cells. “simple”
Nuclei bulge from cell surface in profile.
Simple Cuboidal Structure?
Single layer of cuboidal “cube like” cells and they have a large and spherical nuclei
Where are simple cuboidal cells located?
surface of ovaries, In the kidney tubules, parts of the eye and thyroid, salivary glands, pancreatic duct, thyroid gland follicles
What are the function fo simple cuboidal cells?
To help in absorption, excretion, and secretion.
Simple columnar Structure?
Slender and oval shape. Oval shaped nucelli in basal region.
Location of the columnar epithelial cells?
most organs of the digestive tract including the stomach, and intestines, gallbladder, paranoid gland
Function of the columnar epithelial cells?
absorption, excretion and it secretes mucous and enzymes
Pseudo-stratified columnar epithelium structure?
Single layer of epithelial cells of different heights
Nuclei are disposed at different levels
Pseudo-stratified columnar epithelium function?
absorption and secretion of mucus, protection from foreign particles (dust, pathogens, and allergens), and transport of materials such as hormones and enzymes.
Pseudo-stratified columnar epithelium location?
Ciliated tissues of the trachea, upper respiratory tract.
In males, it is also located in the epididymis, prostate gland, and vas deferens, and in females, it is located in the epidermis layer.
Stratified squamous epithelium
structure?
squamous (flattened) epithelial cells arranged in layers upon a basal membrane.
Stratified squamous epithelium location?
These places include being around different organs, the skin, pharynx, and esophagus, epiglottis, vagina, cornea
Stratified squamous epithelium function?
has protective functions, including protection against microorganisms from invading underlying tissue and/or protection against water loss.
