Epithelial Tissue Location+Function Flashcards
Simple squamous epithelium
Location: Aveoli, Gromeuli of Kidney, Endothelium of Heart and Blood
Function: Rapid diffusion/Transport, Serous fluid for Lubrication
Simple cuboidal epithelium
Location: Salivary glands, Liver, thyroid, mammary, kidney tubules
Function: Absorption and secretion of nutrients, wastes, proteins
Some hormone production, some mucus production
Simple columnar epithelium
Location: lining of digestive tract, uterus, kidney and uterine tubules
Function: Absorption, secretion, mucus production
Pseudo stratified columnar epithelium
Location: respiratory tract, male urethra
Function: secretes mucus; ciliated tissue moves mucus
Stratified squamous nonkeratinized epithelium
Location: tongue, oral mucousa esophagus, vagina
Function: protection against abrasion
Stratified squamous keratinized squamous
Location: epidermis, palms and soles of feet
Function: resist abrasion, water loss, keeps out microorganisms
Stratified cuboidal epithelium
Location: sweat gland ducts, Salivary glands, mammary glands, ovarian follicles, seminiferous tubules
Function: secrets sweat, produces sperm, produces ovarian hormones
Stratified columnar epithelium
Location: pharynx, larynx, anal canal, seminal vesicles
Function: secrets and protects
Transitional (urothelium) epithelium
Location: ureter, bladder, urethra
Function: allows the urinary organs to expand and stretch
